Brazil

Brazil is a country in South America that occupies almost the entire Amazon river basin. It is the world's fifth biggest country in area and the world's sixth biggest country in population with a population of over 174, 000, 000.

The flag of Brazil is the flag of a young country. The globe in the centre represents the night sky of Rio de Janeiro on the night Brazil became a republic. The motto in the centre means "order and progress". Brazil is known as the Federative Republic of Brazil.

 

If you lived in Brazil you would probably live in a major city to town along with two thirds of the rest of the population.  If you didn't live in a city, you would probably be part of Brazil's huge farming industry, Brazil is the world's leading producer of coffee, sugar cane bananas and orange juice concentrate. Almost one quarter of the world's coffee in grown on the plantations of Brazil.

 

A popular dance in Brazil is the Samba.

Brazil has many different species of wildlife. The Amazon rainforest contains the most varied plant life in the world - over 50 000 different species! There are so many different species that half of them haven't even been named yet. Some native Brazilian plants include the pineapple, fig, mango, orange and the bignonia. 

Brazil has an amazing number of animal species. Pumas, jaguars, boa constrictors, sloths and over 1400 species of birds all make their homes in Brazil. Brazil is also known for having more butterflies that any other country in the world.

If you lived in Brazil you would probably get your electricity form hydro electric power plants. The Amazon river is the second longest river in the world and supplies Brazil with an enormous resource. This resource is tapped with many dams dotting the river basin.
